Ren Dongsheng

National first Class Dance Lighting Design, Since 1994,successively as a lighting/stage design for Chinese and foreign nearly performance art director/vision, more than 20 years of career, his works with exquisite and elegant, artistic conception far-reaching unique style has won industry's top awards, such as Wenhua awards (national stage highest award in China)、stage art design award at the Prix Benois de la Danse. In 2015, was selected as one of the 11 outstanding lighting artist with awarded "Light Awards".Worked with Film Director Zhang Yimou in the performance Dialogue Fable 2047 " as visual director.


" Poetic and Narrative " is Ren Dongsheng of personal label, its works depth analytical has stage of multiple relationship, focused on to lights carved stage of poetic space, outside of characters inside. Known as " dancing lights" in Edinburgh International Festival, to become an important artist invited by Chinese and foreign theatre directors and choreographers, is a force that can not be ignored in the field of Chinese stage art creation.

The Elaboration of Stage Concept in "Apologue 2047" Season 2

The choreography scheme adopts simple cutting space to complete the repertoire, using edge curtain to cut, push and pull to facilitate mechanical operation and abstract language to interpret the concepts of time and space, tradition and sci-technology. On visual design, it claims an empty, black and clean stage, aiming at highlighting the blend and conflict between traditional culture and sci-technology. The traditional performance forms interspersed among them are presented in the original state on the stage, while the high-tech machinery is also presented in the indifferent modern style. The two sometimes merge and sometimes clash, thus interpreting the relationship between the two and arousing the audience's thinking.


The lighting design manages to avoid obvious lighting language, making the seemingly simple lighting extremely delicate, timely and appropriate, and runs through the whole play with the visual creation concept of high-cooling, minimalism and mysterious lighting. Precise treatment with color temperature, temperature, light position, light ratio and color gamut is used in each performance, imperceptibly forming a far difference in time and space between traditional and sci-technological elements.


Breaking through the limitation of time and space and presenting all possibility—to merge the ancient cultural heritage with the global sci-technological innovation.

Text introduction of works:

The aesthetic direction of the stage has established at the beginning of creation: solemn, concise and monumental. On the main image, a large sharp-angle white is set up both on and off the stage. It has no specific image. Under the movement of light and shadow, it looks like a book sometimes or a Sinkhole sometimes, making the whole space devouring and oppressive. The white film above the stage can tilt and turnover to further construct the more changeable stage space.


As the whole upper film is separated from the ground, the ruins in the back area of the stage will be exposed. The ruins are in deep memory. We set it in the deep part of the stage as well. It has no concrete content but all rubble crushed. The dark red coarse texture and white smooth stage form a sharp contrast also provides the possibility for dance performances to switch between virtual and actual.


The minimalist stage gives the stage designer a channel to express his emotion, sinking into the darkness, and looking at the distant ray of sunshine. Although weak, dim, and insignificant, it tears the nightmare filled with dust, lifts up the sinking souls one by one, cleans the bloody wounds, and makes life burst forth holy brilliance.

任冬生

国家一级舞美灯光设计,1993年毕业于中央戏剧学院舞台美术系灯光设计专业,北京舞蹈学院青年舞蹈团舞美总监。现担任北京舞蹈学院教学实践中心副主任,中国舞台美术学会灯光专业委员会副主任。


自1994年至今,先后为中外近百台演出担任舞台艺术/视觉总监,20多年的职业生涯里,其作品以细腻雅致,意境深远的独有风格屡屡斩获行业顶尖奖项,其中《根之雕》、《南京1937》曾获“荷花杯”作品金奖,《山水谣》、《鼓舞声声》、《柠檬黄的味道》、《古丢丢》、《黄道婆》、《你好,阿凡提》等作品也先后获得中国文华大奖中的灯光设计金奖(中国国家舞台奖项最高奖)。2015年,被推选为全国11位优秀灯光艺术家之一。在中国第三届舞台美术展上载誉而归,获得“灯光荣誉奖”。在俄罗斯“伯努瓦舞蹈节”上获得舞台美术设计奖。与张艺谋导演合作观念演出《对话·寓言2047》担任视觉总监。

《对话·寓言2047》第二季舞台观念阐述
舞美方案以简单切割空间完成剧目,运用边沿幕切割,推拉,便于机械的运作和抽象的语汇来诠释时空的概念、传统与科技的观念。在视觉设计上主张空黑简洁的舞台,意为突出表现传统文化与科技之间的交融与冲突。穿插在其中的传统表演形式都以最为原始的状态呈现在舞台之上,而高科技机械也以现代冷漠的面貌得以呈现,两者时而融合时而产生强烈的冲突,以此诠释两者之间的关系并引发观者的思考。
灯光设计尽量规避较为明显的灯光语汇,将看似简约的灯光做的极为精致,适时适度,将灯光高冷、极简、神秘的视觉创作理念贯穿全剧始终,每段演出都运用色温、冷暖、光位、光比、色域的精确处理,无形的将传统与科技两种元素的时间、空间形成远差。
打通时空限制、呈现全然的可能——把古老文化传承与全球科技创新做一次融合。

作品介绍:

整个舞台的审美方向从创作开始就确立了:肃穆,简洁,纪念碑式的。主体形象上,舞台上下各设置一块大面积的折角锋利的白色,它没有特别具体的形象,在光影的运动下有时候像是一本书,有时候像一个吞口,使得整个空间有一种吞噬感和压迫感。舞台上空的白色景片可以倾斜翻折进一步去构造舞台空间的多变。


当整个上片从地面处分离时会露出舞台后区一片废墟,它在记忆的最深处,我们也将它设置在舞台空间的最深处,它没有具象的内容,完全是粉碎的瓦砾,暗红色的粗粝的质感与平整的白色舞台形成强烈的对比关系,同时也提供给舞蹈表演虚实切换的可能。


舞台极简的方式让舞台设计者具有了表达情感的通道,沉入黑暗之中,遥望远方那一缕阳光,虽然柔弱,虽然暗淡,虽然渺小,却撕破了那落满尘埃的梦魇,捧起一个个沉沦的灵魂,清洗那血肉模糊的伤口,让生命绽放出圣洁的光彩。
