Ma Lianqing
one of the top Chinese stage designers, a member of CASA (the China Center of the OISTAT), currently acts as China National Opera House’s chief stage designer, majored in set design.
Mr. Ma has collected dozens of awards for his brilliant and abundant stage design work which include the “Five Ones project Award” offered by the Propaganda Department of the CPC, the “Top Culture Award” and the “National Fine Project of Stage Art Award” offered by China’s Ministry of Culture. “The Golden Award” of Chinese Theatre Festival and the “Golden Award” of the First Chinese Opera Festival, and etc. He also won a lot of individual awards like the “National Culture Award of the Stage Art”, the “Stage Art Excellence Award” of the First Chinese Opera Festival, “Academy Award” offered by CASA and the “Stage Art Excellence Award” of the National Art Troupes’ Works Exhibition Show sponsored and awarded by China’s Ministry of Culture, and etc. His work has also been exhibited in the 2017 Fourth Annual WSD Stage design exhibition.
As one of the Chinese middle-aged experts in art, Mr. Ma explores extensively and widely in his stage designs. There is a wide range of genres and form in his works. This includes the classic western opera and the traditional Chinese Peking opera and other local operas. The grand opera lives and the poetic theatrical shows. His works have won him enormous critical acclaims both domestically and internationally. It also has been repeatedly performed worldwide during the tour.
Opera In the field of hope
The opera named In the Field of Hope is to show the music composition career of Mr. Shi Guangnan, a “People’s musician”.
The opera is produced by Zhejiang Provincial Song and Dance Theatre and the first public performance was initiated on November 3, 2018.
Mr. Shi Guangnan is a famous Chinese composer who has enjoyed the good reputation of “Singer of Times” and won the title of “People’s Musician”. The scenic designer gives top priority to how to find and present the music composition career of the “People’s Musician” in his/her whole design work. In the manifestation of whole space, the scenic designer takes the music score, the visual symbol that the composer has associated himself with for a lifelong time, as the integrated part of the whole stage. The enclosure and partition of three music score walls used on the stage, a patch of land and a giant disc-shaped revolving stage adopted on the ground as auxiliaries, and the light and multimedia are integrated to exhibit the life of Mr. Shi Guangnan (People’s Musician), who fights against the fate in order to achieve his music dream in his era and historical context; Mr. Shi Guangnan, as a “People’s Musician” has made great achievements in his music composition career.
Play Macbeth
The modern drama Macbeth is based on one of the Four Great Tragedies by William Shakespeare. It is an experimental drama to be performed in a small theater. There are only three performers in the modern drama adapted from William Shakespeare’s original play; however, they will present a wonderful Macbeth.
The part of Macbeth is played by a female while the role of Lady Macbeth is acted by a male; the third role is Banquo. The metaphorical expression of androgyny is highlighted in the presentation of these characters. As the space is limited in the small theater, the scenic designer has designed and presented a modern slaughterhouse workshop on such a space-limited stage. The conflict between the King and Macbeth is transformed into the power struggle between the slaughterhouse leader and the workshop director; the bloodlust is intertwined with the slaughter and greed. The whole space is built into a pool and partitioned by several pieces of pork and iron chains. The design concept of the modern drama is to convert the physical space into the divergent metaphorical space; a “magnetic field” of imagination is formed on such a single-scene stage where the “Ordinary” Macbeth is played. Everyone is Macbeth on the stage of life. What it has presented in the end is the ultimate subject of human greed aroused by a prophecy.
马连庆
马连庆创作设计的作品种类丰富，舞台设计作品多次荣获中宣部 “五个一工程奖“，中国文化部 “文华大奖“，”国家舞美精品工程奖“，中国戏剧节 “优秀作品金奖“，首届中国歌剧节 “优秀剧目金奖”，中国舞台美术学会 “学会奖”，中国文化部艺术院团展演 “优秀舞台美术奖” 等。作品入选2017年第四届WSD世界舞台美术展。作为中青年专家，其作品涉猎广泛，涵盖多种剧目门类，既有经典西洋歌剧，也有传统京剧及地方戏曲; 有规模宏大的实景歌剧演出，也有写意空灵的戏剧空间诠释，其设计创作作品多次代表国家出访，在美国、意大利、埃及、德国等世界各地多个城市的歌剧院访问巡演并受到业界人士的一致好评及肯定。

歌剧《在希望的田野上》是展现“人民音乐家”施光南先生的创作人生。该作品是浙江省歌舞剧院出品，首演于2018年11月3日。
施光南先生是中国著名作曲家，有“时代歌手”之美称，被授予“人民音乐家”称号。舞美设计如何寻找呈现作为“人民音乐”家创作人生成为整体设计工作的首要任务。舞美设计在整体空间的呈现上选择乐谱这一与作曲家相伴一生的视觉符号结构舞台整体空间。采用乐谱三面墙的围合与分割，舞台地面采用土地和一张巨大的唱片转台相辅助，在灯光和多媒体的结合下，展现了在大时代背景下人民音乐家施光南先生为了完成音乐梦想，与命运抗争的人生，谱写出“人民音乐家”音乐人生的精彩乐章。
话剧《麦克白》

话剧《麦克白》是威廉·莎士比亚四大悲剧之一。这是一部在小剧场里呈现的实验性作品。在莎士比亚原著剧本的基础上进行改编。全剧只有三个演员，却精彩呈现出麦克白这部名剧。
扮演麦克白的是位女性，麦克白夫人则由男性担纲，再加上班柯。在人物的呈现上突出雌雄同体的隐喻性表达，在舞台空间设计上，基于小剧场空间条件的客观存在，舞美设计在这样的空间里呈现一个当代的屠宰场车间。国王与麦克白之争转化成屠宰场厂长与车间主任的权欲之争，血腥与杀戮，欲望与贪婪。整体空间处理成一个水池，几片猪肉和切割空间的铁链。这个戏的设计理念是把写实的物理空间转化成发散式的隐喻空间，在这样单一场景中形成一个想象的“磁场”，在此演绎一出“小人物”的麦克白，人人都是麦克白。最终呈现一个预言勾起人性的贪婪的终极命题。
