Chunhong Xiong, graduated from Shanghai Theatre Academy, is a National First-class stage designer. He is the vice president of Guangdong Stage Artistic Research Association.

His work covers drama, dance drama, musical, Cantonese Opera, and space art design. His work was presented in the 3rd National Outstanding Young Designers Solo Exhibition of China Institute of Stage Design, World Stage Design Exhibition (WSD) 2017, The Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space (PQ) 2019 and Tibilisi Biennale of Stage Design 2020. The designer has been awarded WenHua Prize, China Institute of Stage Design Award, and First Prize of Stage Design in Guangdong Arts Festival.

About scenic design:

Red soil is common in south China and it nurtures local people, who are unpretentious and brave. Their sense of righteousness resides in their blood, and in this red land. This play compliments these great ordinary people, using their favorite local art – Caicha opera. The stage is to find a balance between simplicity and smartness, achieving harmony between tradition and modern aesthetic.

Fan dance is the spirit of Caicha opera. Fans are used on the stage, forming a ink painting of scenery of countryside. The moving fans display different views of the countryside, reflecting various emotions of local people.
